Rohini nakshatra ka matlab kya hota hai? — what it actually says

Rohini (रोहिणी) is the fourth of the 27 nakshatras — Taurus 10°00' to 23°20' — ruled by Chandra (Moon), gana Manushya, yoni Serpent, nadi Antya. It sits entirely inside one rashi. Here's what its lord, its four padas and its naamakshar actually mean, and why "Rohini guarantees beauty and luck" is a myth, not a reading.

Nakshatra series · Rohini (रोहिणी नक्षत्र) · birth star #4 of 27

Rohini is the fourth of the 27 nakshatras, spanning 10°00' to 23°20' of Taurus on the sidereal zodiac. Its ruling planet (nakshatra lord) is Chandra (the Moon), its gana (temperament group, used in Ashtakoot matching) is Manushya, its yoni animal is the Serpent and its nadi is Antya. Anyone born with the Moon in this arc has Rohini as their janma nakshatra — and starts their Vimshottari dasha sequence in a Chandra mahadasha, because Chandra is the fourth lord in the nine-lord cycle that begins at Ashwini.

None of this is a personality reading, and none of it is a promise. Like every nakshatra fact, Rohini is read alongside the lagna, the rest of the chart's planetary placements and the running dasha. Unlike Krittika right before it, Rohini's 13°20' arc sits entirely inside one rashi — covered in full below.

1. What Rohini nakshatra actually is

Rohini is the fourth 13°20' arc of the sidereal zodiac, running from 10°00' to 23°20' of Taurus (Vrishabha) — fully contained in that one rashi, with none of the two-sign split that makes Krittika unusual (see Krittika nakshatra, explained). Rohini's name comes from a Sanskrit root meaning "to grow" or "to ascend", and classical tradition names Brahma, the creator-deity, as its presiding deity, with a cart or chariot as its symbol. Being fourth in the sequence, Rohini falls to the fourth lord in the fixed nine-planet order the 120-year Vimshottari system runs on: Chandra (the Moon), whose mahadasha runs 10 years (background on the full cycle → janma nakshatra basics). Chandra's other two nakshatras, each nine places further along the cycle, are Hasta and Shravana. Rohini's gana is Manushya — one of the three temperament groups (Deva, Manushya, Rakshasa) the classical Gana koota of kundli matching uses.

2. How a Rohini reading is actually built

Same framework as any nakshatra fact — it's never read in isolation:

Gana, Yoni and Nadi are part of the 36-guna Ashtakoot matching system used in Kundli Milan — the classical source for these specific koota tables is Muhūrta Cintāmaṇi, a separate text from the Bṛhat Parāśara Horā Śāstra that assigns the nakshatra lord and the dasha sequence. Ravitra computes both sets from the real birth chart, never guesses them from a name.

3. The fact Krittika didn't have: Rohini sits inside one rashi

Krittika (26°40' Aries–10°00' Taurus), the nakshatra right before Rohini, is the first of the 27 whose arc crosses a sign boundary. Rohini doesn't repeat that: its entire 13°20' arc, from 10°00' to 23°20' of Taurus, stays inside one rashi. A person's Moon rashi (sign) and their janma nakshatra are always two separate facts read off the same longitude — for Rohini, as for most of the zodiac, those two facts never disagree on which sign a birth falls in. Rohini's arc also falls inside the stretch of Taurus that Bṛhat Parāśara Horā Śāstra assigns as Chandra's moolatrikona (root-triangle dignity) — the part of Taurus after the Moon's exaltation point at 3°. That exaltation degree itself lies in Krittika, not Rohini, so Rohini is not the Moon's "exaltation nakshatra", as it is sometimes loosely called. Either way, this is a dignity fact about the Moon's placement, not something Rohini itself confers on a person born under it.

4. Rohini's four padas — a technical subdivision, not four personality types

Like every nakshatra, Rohini divides into 4 padas (quarters) of 3°20' each. Padas are a precision tool, not a separate label layered on top of the nakshatra — the pada boundaries are the same arcs the Navamsa (D9) divisional chart is built from, so a planet's exact pada feeds directly into that finer chart, covered in full at nakshatra basics. For Rohini the four padas land in four different Navamsa signs. Each pada also carries a classical name-syllable (naamakshar) from the Namakarana (naming) tradition, still used by many families and Pañjikā-based naming references today:

Which pada a person's Moon actually falls in depends on the exact birth degree — a fact only a real chart, not a birth date alone, can compute.

5. The common myth: "Rohini means guaranteed beauty, fertility and luck"

Rohini's root sense of growth, plus its classical association with fertility and material comfort, is what feeds this one. The oversimplification is turning that theme into a blanket verdict — "everyone born in Rohini is beautiful, fortunate or lucky" — the same move a sun-sign horoscope makes when it sorts a twelfth of humanity into one bucket (see why a sun-sign horoscope feels generic). Puranic lore adds to the pull: Rohini is named as Chandra's favourite among his 27 nakshatra-wives (the other 26 nakshatras), a mythological story rather than an astrological rule. A nakshatra's classical symbolism describes a tendency the tradition associates with that arc of sky; it names no fate for the person born in it.

The chart's own tables don't support the guarantee either. Manushya is simply one of three Gana groups used in a single Ashtakoot koota — a compatibility check, not a character diagnosis. Rohini's lord is Chandra, the Moon — classically counted the kāraka of mind, emotion and nurture, not of beauty or fortune on its own. What a Rohini Moon actually means for a person depends on the Moon's house and condition, the lagna, the other planets and the dasha running at the time — the same honest framing Ravitra uses for a running Chandra Mahadasha. That is a fact about the actual chart, not something the nakshatra name settles on its own.

The honest limit: a classical descriptor, never a diagnosis or a fixed trait. Rohini's lord (Chandra), gana (Manushya), yoni (Serpent), nadi (Antya), pada and naamakshar values — and its single-rashi placement inside Taurus — are real, computed facts about a real arc of the zodiac, and they mean something specific and checkable, not a vague vibe. But none of it is a promise about a real person's beauty, fortune, or a timing claim on its own. Personality and outcome both need the whole chart together with the running dasha; timing, where it applies, is a window from dasha and gochar, never a fixed date.

How Ravitra reads your nakshatra

Ravitra computes your exact janma nakshatra, its lord, gana, yoni, nadi, pada and naamakshar from your real birth chart — Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) sidereal, never guessed from a birth date alone. If it's Rohini, chat reads Chandra's actual placement and your running dasha together with it — never a generic "Rohini people" script, and never a personality profile or a promise invented from the nakshatra name.

Frequently asked questions

Rohini nakshatra ka matlab kya hota hai?

The fourth of the 27 nakshatras (Taurus 10°00'-23°20'), ruled by Chandra (Moon), gana Manushya, yoni Serpent, nadi Antya — read alongside the rest of the chart, never as a standalone personality label.

Which planet rules Rohini nakshatra?

Chandra (the Moon) — the fourth lord in the fixed 9-planet nakshatra cycle, which is also why anyone born with the Moon in Rohini starts life in a Chandra mahadasha, 10 years in full.

Is Rohini nakshatra inside one rashi or does it cross two?

Entirely inside one rashi, Taurus — unlike Krittika right before it, whose arc straddles Aries and Taurus.

What do Rohini's four padas mean?

A technical 4-way subdivision (3°20' each) feeding the Navamsa (D9). Naamakshar: O, Va, Vi, Vu.

Does Rohini nakshatra guarantee beauty, fertility or good luck?

No. Rohini's classical link to growth and comfort describes a tendency, not a verdict on anyone's looks or fortune. Its lord Chandra is the kāraka of mind and nurture, not of beauty or luck on its own — the outcome depends on the whole chart and the running dasha.

Does being born in Rohini nakshatra decide my personality or luck?

No — the classical and mythological associations are tendencies and stories, never a guaranteed trait read from the name alone, apart from the rest of the chart.

Sources: The 27 nakṣatras, their pādas and the Viṁśottarī nakṣatra-lord cycle (Rohini → Chandra) — Bṛhat Parāśara Horā Śāstra. Brahma as presiding devatā and the cart/chariot as symbol follow the traditional nakṣatra-devatā lists. The Gana, Yoni and Nadi koota tables used in Ashtakoot matching — Muhūrta Cintāmaṇi, not BPHS. The pada-wise naamakshar (name-syllable) table follows the Drik Swar-Siddhanta nakshatra-pada chart, cross-checked against the standard Vedic Pañjikā / Namakarana (naming ceremony) tradition; minor transliteration variants exist across sources. Rohini's single-rashi placement follows directly from each nakshatra's fixed 13°20' sidereal arc, which for Rohini falls entirely within the 30° Taurus boundary (00°00'–30°00') — the same nakṣatra-pada arithmetic Bṛhat Parāśara Horā Śāstra sets out for every nakshatra, not a separate source. Rohini as Chandra's favourite among the 27 nakshatra-wives is Puranic lore, kept separate from the classical koota tables above.

Grounded in the classical Vedic corpus and computed on the Lahiri (Chitrapakṣa) sidereal zodiac. Ravitra states timing as windows, never exact dates, and never sells remedies.
